SEO, AEO and GEO for B2B: What Actually Changes?
AI search changes how answers are assembled and cited, but it does not remove the need for crawlable pages, clear expertise, useful evidence and a coherent site.
SEO improves discovery and performance in search. AEO makes clear answers easy to retrieve and understand. GEO focuses on whether content can be selected and cited in generative answers. For B2B teams, these are overlapping practices—not three separate content factories.
Define the terms without creating false boundaries
SEO covers the technical, content and authority work that helps pages become discoverable and useful in search. AEO emphasises direct, well-structured answers for question-led and answer interfaces. GEO emphasises content that generative systems can understand, select and cite.
In practice, a strong page can serve all three. It has a clear purpose, answers the main question early, explains the detail, supports claims and connects to a trustworthy entity and website.
What stays fundamental
Google’s current guidance says the same foundational SEO practices remain relevant to its AI features. Pages still need to be crawlable, indexed, eligible to show a snippet and supported by people-first content. Google also states that there is no special AI schema or machine-readable file required for inclusion.
That means technical health, internal links, textual content, page experience and structured data that matches the visible page still matter. The goal is not to decorate weak content with new terminology.

What changes in the content approach
Generative systems may break a complex question into several related searches. Create pages that answer a distinct primary question while covering the important subquestions a decision-maker will ask next.
Use concise answer passages, descriptive headings, explicit entities and verifiable evidence. Include useful comparisons and trade-offs rather than writing only promotional conclusions. Keep the content consistent across text, images and structured data.
Evidence and originality matter more than content volume
First-hand experience, named expertise, transparent methods and original examples give a page reasons to be selected beyond generic summaries. If AI helps with research or structure, a responsible human still needs to verify accuracy, add judgement and remove unsupported claims.
Google warns that generating many pages without added value may violate its scaled content abuse policy. Publish fewer pages with a clear audience and useful contribution.

Measure AI visibility alongside commercial outcomes
Google reports traffic from its AI features within Search Console’s Web search type. Bing introduced an AI Performance view that reports citations across supported Microsoft experiences. Treat these as visibility signals, then connect them to engaged visits, enquiries and commercial learning.
Track which pages are cited, what questions they answer and whether visitors continue into relevant service and proof pages. Citation count without business relevance is not the final objective.
